Carol Concert
Carol singers in Year 5 rocked Friday’s concert with their fantastically brilliant voices. All of them were very light hearted and sang wonderfully.
I am sure everybody was pleased hearing the year 5 children singing. Selected year 5 children will be singing in the Belmont Lodge elderly home and I hope they enjoy our carols.
Mince pies were on sale, and there was a fantastic Christmas Grotto to visit for the younger children in school.

Anti-Bullying Week 2010 - Taking Action Together
Golden Rules:
- Never become a bully !!!
- Tell a teacher if you are been bullied !!!
- If you see bullying make sure you tell an adult !!!
On Friday we had an Anti-Bullying assembly and the children were talking an’ acting to show as well as tell the children of Fairlop why you should never be a bully, why if you see bullying happening you should always tell a teacher (or an adult ) and why if you are being bullied don’t believe what they that person or those people tell you tell an adult !!!!!
The assembly was really good - the best one I’d ever seen – and believe me I’ve been to a lot of assemblies partly because I have been in the school for six years and that was by far the best one ever!!

5R - Nigeria rules on Heritage Day!
Lots of stalls after the parade to visit - pastries, fish & chips, ice cream and Chinese and Indian food too. Some of our parents have volunteered to help set up the stalls and cook their native foods for everyone to enjoy.
Many activities were hosted by Yr 6 students - Face Painting, Henna hand painting and Matching Cards game.
Our class wore the colours of the Nigerian flag - green and white. In Nigeria, the weather is very hot with two seasons, the rainy season and dry season and also the harmattan which brings sand from the Sahara desert.

Heritage Day - 19th November
Next week in Fairlop we are holding our annual Heritage Day.
The country our class is representing is Nigeria. We have a new student and he is from Nigeria, he has shared with us some facts about Nigeria and what life is like living there.
We need to do lots of preparation for the event, we will set up some stalls in the school hall, and parents and visitors will come in to buy some cakes and other pastries, and there are lots of other activities happening on the day. Come along and enjoy the day too ......

Trying out some Indonesian Drumming
On Monday we went and tried Indonesia drumming. We were extremely lucky because Year 6 were due to visit but they were doing another activity that day, and we went instead!
We were split in two groups because there were 30 of us and 15 instruments. I was on the big base gong in group 1. The gongs did not have notes they had numbers, so instead of reading music we had to read the numbers.
In Christopher Columbus’ diary he wrote: “I’m going home from Indonesia, I head some weird noses - in case there's danger I’m going now”

Henri Rousseau

Over the past week we have been learning about Henri Roussaeu's paintings and about drawing Indian jungles with jugle animals but was from France and has never seen an jungle before or an jungle animals. He used stuffed animals to see how the animals looked like and that was how he was able to draw a jungle. The critics thought hid pictures were"childlike" and "flat".Only after he was dead people appreicated his paintings. We have made our own pictures. But for now see these Henri Rousseau paintings.

Maths Week!
This week is now Maths week-hurray! The whole school has had lots of fun doing practical activities. Today with our class teacher, Miss Thornton we weighed fruit, but to also help Mrs Walters with selling out the smoothies. It had to weigh a hundred grams to be accurate of how much fruit we needed. Afterwards we got to eat our recipe-YUMMY! Me and Deran ate the 'Grand Health-O' and Nahom's was called 'Delicious Delight'. But there are other activities waiting to be found...we can't wait!!!
