Autumn Projects

Year 6 have been given projects on their classes countries - 6M is Poland, 6G is Great Britain and 6F is Italy. They had to research each country and post their findings in books - some of us interviewed residents from those countries who now live in England, and also found interesting facts and maps.

We are now working on a WW II (1939-45) project incorporating recipes from those times, songs, poems and newspaper reports.

Visit to Ilford Mosque

On Thursday 23rd June Class 5R visited the Islamic Centre. We took the 150 bus to Ilford Exchange and then walked up Balfour Road until we arrived at the Mosque. Before we went into the mosque we all had to remove our shoes. As we entered the Deputy Imam introduced himself and also introduced his two collegues as well. He showed us where they go to wash before they pray. This operation is called 'wazu'.The Deputy Imam told us the different times of day that they have to pray this is all based on the sun. Then he showed us upstairs where they teach their students in classrooms. We went back downstairs and he performed a prayer from the 'Holy Quaran' which is their holy book. His collegues performed another prayer called 'fazar'.
When the day was over we put our shoes on and walked back to the bus-stop to get the bus back to school.

Flowering Plants

In science 5R have been learning about flowering plants as their new project.
We are learning about different parts of the flower, what their job is and what they are called. Excitedly, we had to draw a picture diagram of the parts of the flower and label them and also write about what their job is.
We all enjoyed the project and loved drawing the picture also colouring in the picture.

5R Assembly - The Tudors

Today class 5R had an assembly where parents were allowed to come and watch. This was all about the Tudors.
Class 5R told all of key stage 2 and  the parents about King Henry VIII and his six wives. We also had to write letters in class to Henry VIII saying who we thought would have been the best wife for him and Why!.
Astonishingly, some of the pupils persuaded the parents about Capital punishment and if it was right or wrong to use Capital punishment in the Tudor times.

Also in 5R we have been writing about myths and legends and one pupil read out their Robin Hood story.

Everybody seemed to enjoy our assembly and we would like to thank all the parents that attended.

Sound

Here in Class 5R during science we have been learning about sound and things that sound can travel through, and also that sound is vibration.

Some of the things that sound can travel through are:

• Glass
• Paper
• Plastic
• Cement
• Rubber

We have also discovered that sound can not travel without a material to travel through, so in space where there’s black matter- which is the type of air - sound can not travel.

We have had a lot of fun and found this experiment very interesting.

Our Class Assembly - Dr. Martin Luther King

This blog is about the class assembly that 5R performed which was about  Martin Luther king. The reason we did this assembly was because it was Martin Luther King Day. This was the best assembly that 5R have performed so far because we sang two exciting songs instead of the usual assembly songs. The first one we sang  was called “Doctor Martin Luther king Had A Dream” and the second was called “The Board Is Black The Chalk Is White” which was about not being racist. Both songs had very strong meanings.

In class we also studied the legendary work of Martin Luther king and how he changed the peoples’ views of most of the people in America.

Science - About Space

Here in class 5r we have been learning about the Earth, sun and moon.

We have learnt about how the earth orbits the sun, and how long it takes the moon to orbit the earth.

We students in 5r have learned that:

• The takes 24hours for the earth to spin on its axis-an imaginary pole that goes through it.

• It takes the moon 28 days to spin around the earth

• It takes the earth 365days and a quarter to spin around the earth(each quarter every 4 years ads up to make up a leap year)
